Yesterday I discovered the extent to which my mind wanders. I walked out of the building (I spend 7 hours of my precious life there daily) and sat on a grassy patch. The sun was blazing as if taunting me with it's colourful imagery. I don't like you bright lights. I smoked two cigarettes (in a smokey chain) and watched parents mindlessly dropping their children off to be taught exactly how to say their ABC's. I watched a child sprint down the tarmack path. His father a town drunk shuffled yards behind him, a Lambert and Butler hanging from his mouth and a trail of bad odour following. He told his child that he didn't have to run, there was no hurry and they were not late. I wondered whether the child was excited about school or just wanted to feel the arctic wind on his face for one last time before being secluded into a damp classroom to listen to what is "right" and "wrong".
